Lindera benzoin, also known as wild allspice, Benjamin bush, or spicebush, is native to North America. Spicebush prefers moist soils, making it a great shrub for wet areas, rain gardens, and other areas where other plants may struggle. All plants produce yellow flowers which bloom in early spring; however, only female plants produce spicebush's striking red berries in late summer.
